Role at CAPS

As the Dean of Students Liaison with University of Arizona Counseling & Psych Services (CAPS), I serve as a bridge between CAPS and the University of Arizona Dean of Students Office, supporting students in distress through coordinated care, crisis response, and case management. My role includes consultation on high-risk situations, participation in behavioral intervention processes, collaboration with campus partners, and helping ensure students are connected to appropriate mental health and academic support services—promoting safety, continuity of care, and student success.

Matthew’s professional interests focus on supporting students navigating crisis, life transitions, substance use recovery, anxiety, and depression within a college setting. In his role with University of Arizona Counseling & Psych Services, he specializes in coordinated care, risk assessment, behavioral intervention processes, and case management. His treatment approach is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and relational, integrating motivational interviewing, CBT-informed strategies, and mindfulness. He values meeting students where they are, building authentic therapeutic relationships, and supporting autonomy, resilience, and practical coping skills. He maintains ongoing training in suicide prevention, threat assessment, trauma-responsive care, and substance use recovery, with a strong interest in early intervention and integrated campus care models that promote student wellbeing and academic success.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Matthew enjoys mountain biking, strength training, and spending time outdoors. He values physical fitness as a foundation for mental health and enjoys integrating wellness practices such as sauna, cold exposure, and mindfulness into daily life. He also appreciates time with friends and family and staying active in his local community.
