Campus Adventures

Discover, Connect, and Thrive with Campus Adventures

Looking for a meaningful way to build confidence, manage stress, and connect deeply with others? Campus Adventures offers a uniquely transformative experience that bridges nature-based exploration with occasionally indoor challenges right here on campus.

Hosted by CAPS Psychologist Heather Straight, this therapeutic Mental Health Connections program is designed to help students step out of their daily routines and into an inspiring, supportive environment.

What is Campus Adventures?

Campus Adventures is an experiential group program rooted in “challenge by choice” to promote self-discovery, emotional growth, and community connection. Rather than a traditional talk therapy setting, the group combines guided outdoor excursions with occasional collaborative indoor problem-solving activities.

Whether you are navigating your own personal adventure on campus or working together to solve structured mental challenges, Campus Adventures provides a safe space to explore personal growth in real time. Bring water and an open mind and be willing to engage!

Build Skills for Life

Taking part in Campus Adventures goes beyond just having fun outdoors and learning all the UofA has to offer. The program helps you build practical, lifelong personal and interpersonal skills, including:

Elevated Emotional Intelligence: Deepen self-awareness and learn how to navigate change, stress and uncertainty with resilience.

Innovative Problem-Solving: Tackle creative group challenges that sharpen your critical thinking and adaptability.

Stronger Communication: Build authentic, lasting connections with peers while learning how to express yourself and collaborate effectively.

How to Get Started

If you are looking to recharge, build confidence, and forge genuine friendships in a welcoming group setting, Campus Adventures is ready for you. Groups meet regularly on Tuesday afternoon at 3PM throughout the semester, and space is limited to ensure a supportive environment for all participants. It is important to RSVP so that you are aware of the meeting place on campus each week.

To sign up, speak with your provider or schedule a Mental Health Counseling & Consultation session.
